A timer protects a session. The Journal records what that session was like and carries the record forward. This post explains what the Journal shows and how to use it.
Why journal after focus
When an Aura ends, you have two options. You can reach for the next distraction, or you can close the loop. Writing one short entry does three things.
It marks the session as complete, which helps you disengage. It records how the session felt, not just how long it lasted. And it gives tomorrow a reference point for what worked and what did not.
You do not need to write a diary. One sentence is enough.
The Journal screen at a glance
The Journal screen brings the whole practice together. It shows your writing streak, meaning the number of consecutive days with an entry, along with your total entries, the number of days journaled, and the total words written. A writing heatmap shows your journaling rhythm at a glance, and this week’s moods show how your energy has been tracking.
The screen also includes the write-entry card, your searchable history, and the daily reminder control. Everything is in one place.
Moods
Every entry can carry a mood tag. AuraLock offers seven: Focused, Calm, Grateful, Energetic, Tired, Anxious, Proud. Over time the Journal shows you the shape of your focus. You can see which kinds of days produce your best work and which leave you drained.
The mood summary and the writing heatmap make this pattern visible without turning your inner life into a dashboard. It is a tool for reflection.
Prompts when you are stuck
A blank page can stop a practice. AuraLock includes a set of reflection prompts you can choose from in Journal Settings:
- What did you let go of today?
- What kept you focused?
- One thing you are grateful for.
- What will you protect tomorrow?
These are optional. Pick the ones that work for you and leave the rest.
A streak you can actually keep
The Journal has its own writing streak, and it is designed to be forgiving. The streak only breaks once a day ends without an entry. Opening the Journal in the morning does not zero a live streak. You can combine it with the daily focus goal streak and with Streak Freeze, which protects a missed day.
A daily reminder
Consistency helps. The Journal can nudge you with a daily reminder at a time you choose. This makes writing a small rhythm, like your scheduled Aura, rather than something you have to remember to do.
Searchable by mood and tag
The journal grows over time. When it does, you can search it by text, by tag, or by mood. This lets you revisit how you felt before a big decision, or see what was really going on during a rough week.
Journaling and achievements
Journal entries count toward more than reflection. Writing 5 entries earns Reflective, 10 earns Scribe, and 30 earns Chronicler. These are small acknowledgments that a writing practice is real. Your journal and your goals feed the same loop: protect time, reflect on it, and keep the practice going.
Why it matters
The Journal exists because attention is a practice. Goals give it direction, streaks give it continuity, and journaling gives it a record. None of it judges you. It makes your focus visible, and that helps it grow.
A good place to start is one sentence after your next Aura. That is enough to build the practice.
