Background Restrictions: Keep AuraLock Reliable
How to manage Android background restrictions so AuraLock keeps running — with the exact path for every manufacturer.
What are background restrictions?
Android limits what apps can do when they are not on screen. On top of that, most manufacturers add their own background manager that can freeze or kill an app to save power. Together these can stop AuraLock from monitoring your app usage mid-session.
Why AuraLock needs background access
AuraLock must remain active in the background to detect when you open an app outside your Aura, show the boundary screen, and keep the session timer accurate.
How to allow background activity on your phone
The setting has a different name on every skin — Unrestricted on stock Android, No restrictions on MIUI, Allow background running on ColorOS. Pick your phone below.
Battery: No Restrictions
OptionalKeeps AuraLock alive in the background so your Aura never silently ends early. On MIUI, ColorOS, Funtouch, EMUI, and HiOS this decides whether scheduled sessions fire at all.
In AuraLock: open Settings → Permissions and tap this permission — the button reads “Open Settings”. It opens this exact screen on your phone.

- 1 Open Settings → Battery
- 2 Tap “App battery saver” (HyperOS: “Battery optimization”)
- 3 Tap AuraLock
- 4 Choose “No restrictions”

- Turn OFF “Battery saver” while you use long Auras
Samsung · One UI
- 1 Open Settings → Apps → AuraLock → Battery
- 2 Choose “Unrestricted”
- 3 Check Battery → “Background usage limits” → “Sleeping apps” and remove AuraLock if present

- 1 Open Settings → Battery → App battery management → AuraLock
- 2 Turn on “Allow background running”
- 3 Turn off “Optimize when app is in background” and “Sleep when not in use”

- 1 Open Settings → Battery → Background power consumption management
- 2 Tap AuraLock → allow background power consumption
- 3 Turn off “Power saving mode” for AuraLock
Huawei · Honor · EMUI / MagicOS
- 1 Open Settings → Battery → “App launch” → AuraLock
- 2 Turn off “Manage automatically”
- 3 Allow Auto-launch, Secondary launch and Run in background
- 4 Then Settings → Battery → More battery settings → turn off “Stay connected while asleep”

- 1 Open Settings → Battery
- 2 Tap “Power saving” / “App freeze”
- 3 Exclude AuraLock from freezing

How to verify
Start an Aura, then use other apps for several minutes. AuraLock should still enforce boundaries. If not, run Guardian — it points to the exact setting that is still blocking you.
