What is AuraLock?
AuraLock in 30 seconds — the idea, the concept ladder (Intention → Aura → Daily goal → Personal goal), and a plain-language glossary of every term.
AuraLock is a focus app for Android and a browser extension for Chrome and Firefox. It does not fight your phone with a growing list of things to shut out: you choose what stays alive for a stretch of time, and everything else waits outside your Aura.
The 30-second answer
AuraLock is an intentional technology app for Android, plus a browser extension for Chrome and Firefox. You name why a moment matters, choose the few apps that genuinely support it, set a duration and a boundary, and press Enter Aura. Everything you did not choose waits outside, calmly, until the time you set is up.
Most focus tools begin with a list of things to shut out, and that list is never finished. AuraLock begins with a smaller question: "what do I need right now?" The list of apps that stay alive is short on purpose — a chosen environment, not a growing rulebook.
The concept ladder
Four ideas hold AuraLock together. Read them top to bottom and they describe a habit: a moment, made into a session, made into a day, made into a direction. Read them bottom to top and they describe a plan: the direction decides what today protects, and today decides the environment you create right now.
- Intention — why this moment matters.
- Aura — the environment you create for it.
- Daily goal — the time you protect today.
- Personal goal — the direction all of it serves.
1. Intention — why this moment matters
An intention is one honest sentence about why you are opening an app: connect, create, browse, or something specific. AuraLock can ask before a chosen app opens, remember your answer so the next time is one tap, and ask afterwards whether you got what you came for. Intentions are deliberately not a habit tracker — no scores, no calendar of guilt. More about Intentions.
2. Aura — the environment for the moment
An Aura is the focused phone environment you create for one stretch of time. It has four parts: a purpose, the apps that stay alive, a duration, and a boundary — Standard, where you can pause, extend, and unlock in an emergency, or Strict, where there is no pause and no early exit until the time you set. Create your first Aura.
3. Daily goal — the outcome you protect today
Your daily goal is how much intentional focus time you want to protect today. AuraLock shows it as a home-screen banner, a week chart, and a calendar heatmap, so consistency is something you can see at a glance instead of argue about. Goals.
4. Personal goal — the direction behind it all
A personal goal (or OKR) is the larger direction: one objective, a few measurable key results, and your own honest confidence read. It stays quiet until you ask, but it is what turns a good week into a changed year. Personal goals & OKRs.
How the pieces fit together
- You start from an intention — or from a personal goal that tells you what today should protect.
- You create an Aura: purpose, chosen apps, duration, boundary.
- You enter it. A timer ring shows what is left, your chosen apps stay available, and everything else waits outside.
- The session completes at the time you set. AuraLock records the protected time, awards Focus XP, and updates your streak and daily goal.
- Reflection closes the loop: a journal note, a mood tag, progress and insights — then the rhythm repeats.
Safety is never locked out
Glossary
The words AuraLock uses, in plain language. Every term here is one you will meet inside the app.
- Aura — the focused phone environment you create for one stretch of time: a purpose, chosen apps, a duration, and a boundary.
- What stays alive — the short list of apps you choose to keep available during an Aura. Everything else waits outside.
- Boundary (Standard / Strict) — how firm the edge of your Aura is. Standard lets you pause and extend; Strict holds until the time you set.
- Emergency Unlock — the deliberate way out of a Standard Aura, behind a short challenge and a wait you set yourself. Strict Auras do not offer it.
- Boundary screen — the calm notice you see when you open something outside your Aura: "This app is outside your Aura."
- Intention — the one-question answer to why you are opening an app, and how long feels right.
- Daily goal — the amount of intentional focus time you want to protect today.
- Personal goal / OKR — the longer direction: one objective, a few key results, and your own honest confidence read.
- Focus XP & Focus Level — the reward for completing Auras. XP only ever goes up, and levels unlock longer sessions, more chosen apps, and themes.
- Streak — consecutive days you met your daily goal, with a Streak Freeze you can spend to protect a single missed day.
- Guardian — the in-app check-up that verifies your permissions and battery settings so sessions actually hold.
- Rhythm (schedules) — recurring Auras that start at the times you choose, with the option to snooze or skip a day.
- Autopilot — a session that begins by itself at a scheduled time, with no manual start — up to 24 hours.
- AuraWake — an alarm that ends with a small deliberate challenge instead of a snooze tap.
- Aura Moment — a short guided pause built around breathing, for the moments between tasks.
- Journal — the quiet record of how sessions went: a note, a mood tag, and your honest reflection.
- Aura Assistant — the on-device helper for questions and shortcuts.
