Guardian: AuraLock reliability health check

Understand Guardian, the health check system that ensures AuraLock works reliably on your device — what it checks, how to read results, and how to fix issues.

Guardian is AuraLock's configuration health check. It verifies that your device is set up correctly so AuraLock can protect your focus reliably, and it offers one-tap fixes when something is off.

Why Guardian exists

Android devices vary widely, and manufacturers often add their own battery and background restrictions that stop apps like AuraLock from running in the background. A focus app that silently stops protecting you is worse than no focus app at all. Guardian catches these failures before they break a session.

What Guardian checks

  • Required permissions are granted (accessibility, display over other apps, usage access, alarms)
  • Battery optimization is disabled for AuraLock
  • Background activity is allowed
  • Autostart is enabled where the manufacturer offers it
  • No manufacturer-specific restrictions block AuraLock

Running Guardian

Open AuraLock Settings and tap Guardian, or run the health check from the Home screen when prompted. Follow the walkthrough below.

Open Settings → Guardian

Open AuraLock Settings and tap Guardian — or run the health check from the Home screen when prompted.

Run the check

The check takes a few seconds and verifies permissions, battery optimization, background activity, autostart, and manufacturer restrictions.

Read the results

All clear means everything is configured correctly. Warning means a setting may reduce reliability. Critical means a required permission or setting is missing and should be fixed first.

Tap Fix all now

For most issues Guardian guides you straight to the right Android settings screen or permission dialog. Many issues resolve with a single tap on Fix all now.

Re-run after updates

After Android updates, manufacturer OS updates, or AuraLock updates, settings can silently change. Run Guardian again to confirm everything still holds.

Understanding results

All clear

Everything is configured correctly. AuraLock will run reliably in the background, timers will stay accurate, and scheduled Auras will fire on time.

Warning

A setting may reduce reliability. For example, battery optimization may let Android sleep AuraLock during long sessions. Follow the recommended fix so focus stays dependable.

Critical

A required permission or setting is missing. Without it, AuraLock cannot function properly. Sessions may fail to start, or the boundary may drop mid-session. Fix these first.

One-tap fixes

Guardian does more than report. For most issues it guides you to the right Android settings screen, such as battery settings, app info, or autostart, or it opens the correct permission dialog. Many issues resolve with a single tap on Fix all now.

Run Guardian after updates

After Android updates, manufacturer OS updates, or AuraLock app updates, settings can change silently. Run Guardian again to confirm everything still holds.

Fixing issues manually

Guardian provides specific instructions for each warning. If you prefer to fix things yourself, or need manufacturer-specific steps, see:

Self-heal during sessions

Guardian does not only run on demand. If the boundary service disconnects mid-session, AuraLock detects it and offers a reconnect so your focus is restored as quickly as possible. It also watches for a phone reboot mid-Aura and offers to Restore your Aura with the remaining time intact.
