How to Create Your First Focus Aura

Create your first focus Aura in AuraLock, step by step — purpose, apps, duration, boundary, schedule, and the moment you press Enter Aura. Includes the level caps and how Focus XP works.

An Aura is a focused phone environment. It has four parts — a purpose, a set of apps that stay alive, a duration, and a boundary — plus an optional schedule. Creating one takes under a minute. This guide walks the wizard screen by screen and explains the numbers behind it, so nothing about the app is a surprise later.

Follow the app, step by step

Build an Aura the same way you would in the app — one decision at a time. The phone updates live, so you can see exactly what you are creating.

The wizard, one screen at a time

Aura creation is a guided wizard. Each screen asks one question, and a live preview on the right updates as you choose, so you can see the session you are building before you commit to it.

1 · Purpose

Pick what this block of time is for. Presets include Deep Work, Study, Health & Fitness, Family Time, and Personal Time, or choose Custom and write your own. The purpose becomes the Aura’s name and the line shown on the lock screen — a small thing that makes the commitment feel like a decision rather than a timer.

2 · What stays alive

Search your installed apps and select the ones you genuinely need for this purpose. A counter shows how many you have picked. AuraLock is whitelist-first: you are choosing what stays available, and everything else waits outside. There is no list of banned apps to maintain.

The app limit grows with your level

You can keep 5 apps alive at Levels 1–2, 8 from Level 3, and 12 from Level 9. If you hit the limit, the picker tells you exactly which level raises it. Launching and launcher apps, keyboards, and system components never count — they are excluded automatically and can never be blocked.

3 · Duration

Choose a named length — Sprint (10 min), Pomodoro (25 min), Deep Work (45 min), Flow (60 min) — or set a custom time. Maximum duration also grows with your level:

  • Levels 1–4 — up to 3 hours per Aura
  • Levels 5–9 — up to 4 hours per Aura
  • Level 10+ — unlimited duration

Scheduled Auras can run longer windows than a manual session because the schedule owns their start and end; see Aura schedules.

4 · Boundary

Choose Standard — pause, extend, and an Emergency Unlock behind a short math challenge — or Strict, which has no pause, no early exit, and no emergency path at all. Strict asks for a confirmation before it starts, because it is a real commitment. The full rule-by-rule comparison is on Standard vs Strict.

5 · Schedule (optional)

Add a repeat if you want this Aura to come back on its own: choose the days, the start time, and whether it starts automatically or waits for your go-ahead. You can also skip this entirely and start the session manually — most people add a schedule once they know a session is worth keeping.

6 · Review and enter

The final screen summarises purpose, staying-alive apps, duration, and boundary, and offers to save the Aura as a preset so the next one is a single tap. Then tap Enter Aura. If you chose Strict, confirm the commitment, and the boundary is live.

Lock screen styles

The lock screen is what you will look at most during a session, so AuraLock ships several styles and unlocks more as you level up. Aura is available from the start; the rest arrive as you go:

  • Level 3 — Midnight
  • Level 5 — Ocean
  • Level 6 — Classic, Dark Mode
  • Level 8 — Sunset
  • Level 10 — Cosmos
  • Level 11 — Minimal

One-tap presets

If you would rather not build an Aura from scratch, the Home screen starts one in a single tap:

  • Quick Focus — a short, flexible session for a gap in the day
  • Deep Work — a longer focused block
  • Power Hour — an hour with the strongest boundary

Templates go further and arrive as rewards: Deep Work at Level 2, On the Go at Level 4, Writing Flow at Level 6, Creative Focus at Level 8, and Minimal Day at Level 11. At Level 12 every standard template is unlocked at once.

How Focus XP works

Finishing Auras earns Focus XP, which raises your Focus Level and unlocks the caps, templates, and styles described above. XP only ever goes up — nothing you do can lose it.

  • Base — 1 XP per 5 focused minutes. A session must reach 5 minutes to earn its first XP, which stops start-and-stop cycles from farming points.
  • Strict bonus — +2 XP for every completed Strict session.
  • Long-session bonus — +3 XP for any session of 30 minutes or more.
  • Streak bonus — +1 XP per 3 consecutive days, up to a maximum of +5 XP.

A worked example

A 45-minute Strict session on an 18-day streak earns 9 XP base, +2 for Strict, +3 for length, and +5 for the streak — 19 XP from one session.
